Skin care does not have to be costly to be effective. Furthermore, some companies choose to add ingredients that are known toxins for humans. While we need more studies to determine at what levels these contaminates may cause harm to us and our environment, there are a lot of things you can do for your skin that will cost you a lot less than those expensive creams sold in department stores. By preparing your own body care products, you can have beautiful looking skin, slow down premature skin aging, and save some money.
Here are some of the advantages of making homemade skin care items yourself:
- Huge savings. Most of the products that you’ll use are already in your home.
- Avoid harsh chemicals. Cosmetic ingredients are designed to penetrate the skin and scientists have found many common cosmetic ingredients in human tissue.
- Always natural and fresh. Skin care products that you buy in a store were prepared months if not years in advance. Preservatives must be added to skin care products to avoid bacteria contamination and growth. On the other hand, when you prepare your skin care items yourself, you get a fresh and natual batch every time.
- Easy to make. Just look at the recipes below!
Gentle Exfoliant for Dry Skin
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
/2 cup brown sugar
Mix together with your fingers. Apply to skin with a gentle circular motion. Rinse off with warm water.
Firming Facial Mask
1/2 tablespoon of Henry’s Vitamin E Oil
1 TB yogurt
1 egg
Mix vitamin E oil, yogurt and egg. Massage this mixture into face and neck. Leave on for at least twenty minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
Honey Facial Mask
1/2 cup Henry’s orange blossom honey
Place a cloth in warm water and apply to your face to open the pores. Smear on honey, and leave for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, then use cold water to close the pores. Use once a week.
Wrinkle Reducer:
Banana is wonderful as an anti-wrinkle treatment!
1 over-ripe banana
Mash 1/4 banana until very creamy. Spread all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and a dash of cold at the end. Gently pat dry.
Treatment for Dark Under Eye Circles
Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener.
1 potato
Cheese cloth
Run one spud through your food processor and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheesecloth. Apply to the area directly beneath your eye — don't let the potato juice come in contact with the eye itself — and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe away the starchy residue.
