Sure, slapping patties on a hot grill is a great summertime treat, but this “surprise inside” technique of seasoning ground beef then shaping burgers around a piece of Cheddar cheese will wow backyard guests and keep meat moist.
Serves 8

2 lb. natural ground chuck or lean ground beef
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
6 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
3 Tbs. organic Dijon mustard
4 cloves garlic, minced (about 4 tsp.)
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
8 oz. Cheddar cheese, cut into 8 pieces
8 whole-wheat hamburger buns

1. Preheat grill to medium-high.

2. Combine ground beef, onion, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic, salt and pepper in bowl with your hands. Shape into 1/2-inch thick patties. Poke a hole in the center of each patty. Place piece of cheese in hole and form meat into patty around cheese. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Brush grill with oil. Cook burgers, 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until meat thermometer inserted in side of burger reaches 160F. Meanwhile, toast buns on the grill 1 to 2 minutes. Serve with your favorite burger fixings.
