Meet David
What I Do: Produce Clerk
Where: Yorba Linda Store

David says, “I love the produce department because the fruits and vegetables are always fresh and look so appealing. The customers love it and I enjoy displaying it.”

What is the best part of your day?
About 11:00 when it starts getting really busy and there are more customers to talk to.

How did you end up at Henry’s?
The place that I was working at before coming to Henry’s went out of business so I needed to get another job. I heard Henry’s was hiring, so I decided to apply. I had heard many good things about Henry’s so I was very excited and nervous about my interview. Needless to say, I was hired and I am thrilled to be a part of such a growing company.

What is your typical day like?
I display the produce so that it looks appealing and inviting to the customers. I always greet the customer, answer questions and make sure they get what they need. The main part of my day is making sure that I render great customer service.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at Henry’s?
I take a lot of family vacations. I enjoy movies, reading my newspaper and barbequing. I love being a Grandpa and making my grandkids dreams come true whenever possible.

How would you describe Henry’s to someone who had never heard of the store?
It’s an indoors, year-round farmers market. It’s filled with lots of vitamins and healthy, organic foods and drinks. There you will find the friendliest group of people to assist you with all of your shopping needs.

Meet Bryan
What I Do: Meat/Seafood Clerk
Where: Yorba Linda Store
I’ve worked at Henry’s for: 6 1/2 years

Bryan says, “The best part of my day is making sausage. It is so much fun and it never gets old…not even after six years.”

How did you end up at Henry’s?
Henry’s was a great place to work part time while I was in high school. Then, as a college student, they offered to work around my school schedule. I couldn’t say no to that and I’ve been here ever since!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I have been an Angels baseball fan ever since I played little league here in West Yorba Linda.

What was the last vacation you took?
I recently went to Oahu Hawaii with my family and we stayed on Waikiki Beach. We saw all of the tourist attractions and I ate sushi until I couldn’t see straight!

Meet Susan
What I Do: Produce wet-rack clerk
Where: Costa Mesa Store
I’ve worked at Henry’s for: 4 1/2 years

Susan says, “The best part of my day is when I’m getting ready to leave and I look over all that I’ve accomplished that day.”

How did you end up at Henry’s?
I’ve worked in the grocery industry for 26 years in many roles- grocery manger, produce manager and merchandiser. After shopping at the Laguna Niguel store I found Henry’s very unique and really liked the format and presentation. I was tired of working in conventional grocery stores and wanted a new challenge.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at Henry’s?
Of course, playing with my grandchildren. I enjoy collecting antiques (early American style) which include furniture, porcelain dolls, silverware, plates and country bells. I also love traveling with my husband and friends.

What was the last vacation you took?
Last year we went to Chile for 10 days to visit friends and sightseeing. One thing I remember was visiting a poet’s home, Pablo, in Santiago which was a fantastic experience. The house was built to look like a boat ( since he got sea-sick if he got on a regular boat ) and located on the shoreline. He had over 20 wooden bow statues throughout his home and on all the beams in the house he carved the names of all family and friends that have died. It was a beautiful country yet I really came to appreciate the USA and all that we have to offer. Little things like having hot water everyday, empty shelves at local markets, and the selections of goods.

How would you describe Henry’s to someone who had never heard of the store?
A very unique store that sells healthy foods (fresh produce, quality meats, cheeses, good selection of dairy and grocery items, fresh bakery, large bulk foods department, and natural living supplements, body care, books and mercantile). Our size makes us easy to shop and our prices are great compared to conventional stores. It is really a personable experience shopping in this environment.

Susan’s Famous Mexican Egg Rolls
When I was 21 I created a Mexican egg roll recipe. Use egg roll skins, pound of ground beef, a packet of taco seasoning, 16 oz cheddar cheese, and green onions. Fry ground beef, mix in taco seasoning, drain excess juice and mix with cheese and onions in bowl, roll up skins with mixture, and then fry with 1/4 inch of canola oil in a skillet. Serve with guacamole and sour cream, and have side dishes of Spanish rice and beans.

Meet Bill
What I Do: Receiver
Where: Oceanside Store
I’ve worked at Henry’s for: 11 years

How did you end up at Henry's?
I was working as a substitute teacher for about seven years and wasn't landing a contract. I needed a part time job for the summer and that turned into a full time job.

What was the last vacation you took?
Every year, since 2001, I have been flying back to Long Island, NY with one or more of my sisters, to visit our mom. This gives us all a chance to reconnect with where we grew up.

What is your typical day like?
Believe it or not, my day is more than just checking in each delivery that comes in and waiting for the next. I keep myself occupied with everything from making sure pricing is correct on invoices to stocking a product that I know just came in that needs to go on the shelf. The most important part of the job, I feel, is making sure all of the invoices get turned into the SAC in an accurate, prompt fashion so that our company remains in good standing with our vendors.

Bill’s Gourmet English Muffin Pizzas
Yes, in my household I make "gourmet" english muffin pizzas with homemade sauce, fresh herbs, fresh Henry's sausages, mozzarella, provolone, and freshly grated parmesan reggiano. Drizzle with a little olive oil and pop 'em in the toaster oven. Yummy!
