Making your own mulling spices is a delicious addition to holiday gift baskets or as a spicy hostess gift. Keep these spices in a large Mason jar to spoon out as needed, or create your own spice bags by wrapping up 3 Tablespoon servings in cheesecloth.
Makes 14 servings (3 Tbsp. each), which will mull 8 cups of apple cider.

3 oz. cinnamon sticks
6 whole nutmeg
1/3 c. dried orange peel, chopped
1/3 c. dried lemon peel, chopped
1/4 c. whole allspice
1/4 c. whole cloves
2 Tbsp. crystallized ginger, finely chopped

Put cinnamon sticks and nutmeg in a zip-top storage bag and break into small pieces with a rolling pin. Add remaining spices.

To mull cider:
Add 3 Tbsp. of spice mixture to 8 cups of apple cider. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until desired taste is achieved. Strain out spices before drinking.

To make individual spice bags:
Cut double layers of cheesecloth into 14 5" squares. Put 3 Tbsp. of mulling spice mixture into each square and tie up with string.
