Fresh Picked Just For You
At Henry’s, produce is the cornerstone of who we are and why we are in business. For over 55 years we have brought the freshest fruits and vegetables to market in both San Diego and Arizona. In fact, our California customers think our produce is so fresh that they voted us the No. 1 place to buy fresh produce in Orange County.
Staring in 1943 when the Boney Family bought a truckload of peaches and sold them on a street corner in San Diego, to the present where, every day, you’ll find over 350 farm-fresh conventional and organic produce varieties—with an emphasis on California-grown fruits and vegetables—in all of Henry’s Markets.
We still value local farms and continue to support local farmers and the quality of produce that comes from up the road and just around the corner. With fewer miles to market, resources are conserved and freshness is evident in every ripe, juicy bite!
Did we mention our prices? In addition to quality and variety, Henry’s offers savings that can’t be beat. We make it easy to get your recommended daily servings of fruits and veggies — without breaking the bank. From extra large artichokes and seven different kinds of tomatoes—vine-ripened, Roma and heirloom varieties—to fresh corn on the cob, tender lettuces and Hawaiian-grown pineapples, Henry’s produce selection and prices can’t be beat.
Melons: It’s melon season and in addition to traditional favorites like watermelon and cantaloupe, we feature the best selection of variety melons around! So, slice some up or blend into a refreshing liquado and enjoy the fruits of the season.
Honeydew
Honeydews have smooth, bright yellow rinds with fragrant green and white flesh. Some varieties have orange flesh, similar in flavor and color to cantaloupes. Choose melons that are heavy for their size and free of blemishes and bruise. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
Cantaloupe
Grown on vines like pumpkins and gourds, cantaloupes are easily spotted by their light brown rinds netted with crisscrossed veins and their sweet fragrance. Their flesh is bright orange, juicy and an excellent source of beta-carotene. Cantaloupes continue to ripen after harvest. Choose firm, round melons that seem heavy for their size and gently tap and listen for a hollow sound to ensure ripeness. Refrigerate for optimum freshness.
Sharlyn
Sharlyns look like an elongated cantaloupe with sweet, juicy light green flesh. Choose melons that smell fragrant and are free from scars or surface defects. Ripe Sharlyns should give slightly when gently pressed at their blossom end. Refrigerate for optimum freshness and enjoy within 12 days of purchase.
Galia
Prized for their strong perfume fragrance and smooth sweet flesh, galias look similar to cantaloupes but feature the creamy green flesh found in honeydews. Choose melons that are well-shaped and heavy for their size. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
Crenshaw
Mildly sweet large melons with smooth, golden green rinds and pinkish gold flesh. Choose melons that are heavy for their size, slightly soft at their blossom end. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
Canary
Bright yellow, oblong melons with a delicately ridged rind prized for their creamy white flesh and sweet juiciness. Choose melons that are heavy for their size, slightly soft at their blossom end. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
Charentais
Charentis melons look like smooth-skinned cantaloupes with dark green well-defined ribs. The flesh is deep orange with a floral perfume. Delicious in fruit salads or wrapped with a salt slice of prosciutto. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
Sprite
Tiny melons with big melon flavor! Creamy colored rind protects even creamier, juicy sweet flesh that tastes like pear, watermelon and honeydew. Light brown circles (sugar rings) encircle the melon when ready for harvest. Store between 45 to 50°F and enjoy within two weeks of purchase for optimum flavor and freshness.
